I ordered this item and it arrived promptly.It was well-packaged and in good condition, as represented.However, I wanted to mention this warning that appears on the inside label:THIS HOSE CONTAINS ONE OR MORE CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER AND BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM.WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING.
Since I assume this warning would apply to any soaker hose which has been manufactured from recycled tires, I don't blame the vendor, but I do think the warning should be more evident to online buyers.
Personally, I had planned to use this soaker hose in my vegetable garden, but have changed my plans in light of this warning.While there seems to be a lot of information available online touting the *green* benefits of soaker hoses (i.e., 70% reduction in water use), I do not see much out there that raises concerns about the potential safety hazards posed when using this type of irrigation conduit for food sources.
Although there is not always research available to directly tie this type of carcinogenic exposure to specific health risks, it seems to be common sense that this is not the type of chemical we want circulating in our food gardens.For concerned vegetable gardeners, it would be nice to find irrigation products with the "drinking water safe" designation.
