Apex 9885-100 NeverKink Commercial Duty 4000 3/4-Inch-by-100-Foot Hose Review

I've owned (and discarded) many garden hoses over the last 40 years or so. All of them tended to develop permanent or temporary kinks that restricted flow or shut it off altogether. We bought our first NeverKink hose by Apex about 6 months ago off the sale table at Smith and Hawken (discounted, it was a reasonable price); it worked flawlessly. We went there a few months later and found another. Both were 5/8 inch diameter hose and only 25 feet. No kinks. So I splurged and bought the 3/4 inch Commercial from Amazon after researching the manufacturer's website and reviews, this time buying the 100 foot version.

The result: pure pleasure! On the rare occasion when there is a kink occasioned by heavy twisting, it's temporary and there is no sign of the kink once it has been unkinked, and no tendency to re-kink at that location on the hose.

The machined (not stamped) brass fittings at both ends of the hose are really heavy duty, strain-reinforced at the faucet end, built to last.

Don't know about cold weather (we don't have much in Southern California) but at about 45ºF. it is still quite flexible. I would heartily recommend this hose based on our extensive use of it.

Gardena 36826 Garden Hose Repair Quick Connector Review

The correct # for a 1/2" is a mystery. The description claims that the connecter will work on 5/8" and 1/2" hoses. It is a "bear" to connect a 1/2" hose (Gardena) to this connecter. I'm sure that the 5/8" hoses will work but not both sizes.

Legacy 5/8-Inch-by-50-Foot Retractable Garden Hose Reel #L8346 Review

I had purchased a water powered retractable unit last year.
The problem was the water inlet was 3/8". Poor flow.
The Legacy inlet is full size. I now have one unit in front, 2 in back. So far no problems with the hose or retraction spring. Once the factory hose wears out, I think I will replace with a 5/8". Overall, I am very happy with the product and give it a full 5 stars.

Very disappointed with the hose reel. Other than being easy to assemble, couldn't find much about it I liked. Hose capacity is overstated, construction is flimsy.
Paid top dollar thinking this might be something that would last a long time, but have the feeling I might be looking for a replacement next spring. Lots of better options available, for a lot less money.

Fits onto a coiled hose that I have hooked up in my laundry room. I use it to water plants in several rooms. The nozzle fits my hand nicely and does not get cold when the water is running. Dramm 22730 Touch N Flow Pro Full Flow Shut-Off Valve Review

I have a coiled garden hose with a firemans type nozzle. The Touch N Flow Pro does a great job. I usually have to adjuct the nozzle each time. You have to turn the nozzle by holding one end and adjusting the nozzle. With the Touch N Flow you adust the nozzle and then just release the handle of the Touch n flow and it works great. You can just close the handle and it stops flowing..Its alos easier to adjust the fow of the nozzle now with something to hold when adjusting it..You can not do better than with this shut off value..

Bird-Embossed Hose Holder Review

Amazingly high quality solid copper (correction - painted steel!) piece.Better than I was expecting based on the description and picture.Get the real thing for what most places charge for resin or plastic knock offs.Very pretty embossed pattern.Will be getting a second one soon.

Update - further research indicates this is painted steel.Has held up very well in actual use.I appreciate the lid.Looks good and keeps the hoses out of the sun.Still wish it were real copper, but then it would be a lot more money.

I like and go to great lengths to find Gardena® watering products. K-Marts, Wal-Mart, & WormsWays stopped carrying them in my local area so mail-order is the only way. Most carry, I think, life-time guarantees, but you may need to check ahead of purchase and keep sales receipts for years to enforce that guarantee on the better products. Cheaper ones like this you may pitch the receipt and then lose out. My Gardena 36938-12 Twin-Cap Connector cracked in the first sason of use at the Y-branch and no glueing could save it. You probably will be better off buying a brass fitting. Be sure it is brass and not plastic coated with a brass or metalic surface.

Claber 8621 Mid 5/8-Inch Garden Hose Repair Kit Review

I purchased this to stop a leak in a 100 foot 5/8 inch garden hose. The product does not come with directions, so it is difficult to know whether it is being correctly used, but one uses a knife to cut out the leaking section, then the Claber 8621 male ends are inserted into the two ends of the undamaged hose from which the bad section has been removed. The Black threaded nuts then are tightened which clamps down over the two ends of hose. The only problem is that although the leak improves, when turned on the water still leaks through the repair kit.I suspect success may vary depending on how well the hose compresses and the water pressure. Overall, I'd say the product helps but does not completely stop the leak.

Shanghai Worth Garden #5840 Green Thumb Deluxe HSE Reel Cart Review

The instructions are pretty much worthless, so it took longer than I expected to assemble it because I didn't do it in the right sequence, and had to disassemble then reassemble. but other than that it's fantastic! Plastic hose reels appear bulky because all the parts are made so thick; this metal one with it's thin diameter tubing is almost invisible. Even so, it's sturdy and not rickety. And the reel is mounted up higher, so you don't have to bend over as much when winding. Plastic ones are not sturdy at all, they tend to "walk" or wobble when you try to drag them behind you because of all the flexing (I used to have to pick up & carry mine). The one I replaced was the cheapest plastic one on sale at Ha**** Fr**** and even it was more expensive than this metal one. Look around at all the metal hose reels on Amazon, to get anything like this of a different brand starts at $90 and goes up from there!! My only criticism is that the manufacturer just throws the parts into the box with no styrofoam, so my reel was slightly bent and the handles had poked holes through side of the box. Also, all the threaded fittings are plastic, and although everything was leak-free on the first try, I would have preferred those parts to be metal for longevity. Oh, and the lead-in hose is TINY, only about 2 feet long, so unless you plan to keep it butted right up against the house under the faucet you'll need to buy a longer one.

I normally do not write reviews, but in this case I think that it is necessary.
My wife & I are avid gardeners and there is probably not a day during the gardening season that we do not use our garden hose.
I purchased a Robo winder around 5 years ago (could be 7 or 8) and we were extremely pleased with it. We left it outside all year round and only disconnected the inlet hose during our Illinois winters.
We also purchased a 75 ft unit that we have also performed the same maintenance on, which is none and also found this unit GREAT.
Finally had to replace my Robo Winder with new version RW-12581 and found this new version faster and much, much smaller and more compact then my trusty Robo Winder.
I was even able to install a small sprinkler to the discharge hose to water those neglected areas instead of dumping the discharge water down a drain.

I had looked at all of the alterative units (electric, hand windups) and this unit is simply the BEST.
I wish that everything I purchased worked as well.

- The plastic tightening ring is the weak link in this product.It will eventually fail, particularly if it's cross-threaded (threads misalign) with a brass female hose end.

Summary:

I gave up on this product, and now use 1/2" ball valves on each garden hose; see Customer Images.These valves have 1/2" female threads on each end and the ball valve's hole is 1/2" diameter, which allows excellent water flow.They also have a large handle and are designed to last for decades.

one star short because the bolts to tighten the base are too tight to turn. But it also makes it easier to move from spot to spot til you decide where you want it (like I did) but most people know where they want the hose holder so be sure to have a set of strong hands to turn the wrench! Nelson Rezimar High-Water Flow Dual Outlet Kink-Free Flex Hose Adapter with Coil #50315 Review

I bought this at Home Depot last summer and used it for about 5 months. The design is great with the easy to turn shut-off handles, and I liked the high water flow as compared to cheaper shut-off valves.

However, it is just not built to last. This spring when I hooked it up again, I discovered that one of the valves is now on in the "off" position, and when put in the "on" position, it is mostly off but leaks. I have no idea how this happened -- apparently the connection between the ball inside the valve and the handle is not reliable.

Unfortunately this is going to end up in the trash - I was hoping it would be more durable than the cheap metal shut-offs with plastic handles, but it wasn't. Next time I'll be buying a solid brass unit.

Colorite Contractor WC7534075 Professional 3/4-Inch x 75-Foot Brick Garden Hose Review

This review was taken from elsewhere on the web but precisely voices my opinion.I have 3 of these hoses, all of which have developed "aneurysms" in one or more places, several of which have burst and needed repair.I have one hose which now has 3 such bulges, having already repaired an earlier split. I strongly recommend against purchasing this hose or its 50 foot equivalent.

"DO NOT BUY. I have had it up to here with this hose, it made my watering awful and I had to throw it out. This is a junk Goodyear product and they should be ashamed to put their name on it. I bought this so called "industrial" hose thinking it would replace my American Standard "contractor" hose from 10 years ago (also 3/4", also terra cotta color). The quality is nowhere comparable. There is no quality. This hose constantly kinks, even when you take great pains to untwist it all the time. It is rigid and not flexible, which is what makes it kink so much. Every time you pull it it will kink. It will even kink if you pick it up and pull it without any twists, in your hand, unless it is full of water. Once it kinks once or more in the same place, it will eventually puncture. Mine punctured in three places. And, it cannot be repaired, because the 3/4" diameter is too wide for the 1/2" - 3/4" repair kits in the stores. I tried four different types of kits before I threw the hose out.Around 10 years ago I bought an American Standard "contractor grade" hose from Home Depot with the same appearance. That hose wintered outside in the snow, was capable of being driven over on a gravel driveway, and lasted 9 years before it sprung a single leak. This hose lasted 6 weeks before it sprang a leak. This is a cheap, junk product."

Orbit Sunmate 58665 Hose Y, Aluminum and Brass Review

There's not much to this little gadget; it lets you split a spigot (such as one on the outside of your house, or your irrigation line) into two places to hook your hoses to.

Unlike a simple Y-adapter, this one has shutoff valves, which are a necessity in my eyes. The ones on this turn fairly well and they stay put. It's a ball valve, and does not leak when turned off.

The body is metal (aluminum that's been colored black, not painted) with brass threads; I have had much better luck with brass threads (as far as not leaking) than plastic, so this is a good thing.

The only thing is, I wish the top threads (the ones that hook to the spigot) were also brass; they are not -- I believe they're plastic. Still, it doesn't leak there, so I don't have any real complaint. It does allow you to turn the Y at that collar when it's hooked up, which is also nice -- so you can either use it with both facing outward, or with one facing up and the other facing down -- just rotate it at the spigot collar.

Ray Padula RP-SRIW-2 28-Inch Reach It Professional Water Wand Review

This is a great watering wand. I am not a professional, but it is sooooo much better than the hose handle! There are many settings on the dial for shower, jet, mist, spray, etc., and you can dial in between the settings for just the right dispersion of water. The head moves up and down for hard to reach places or to make the water shoot farther away. It is perfect for my rock garden because I can set it so that it doesn't wash away the dirt, mulch and decorative tiny stones. It has an on and off setting so you don't waste water. Similar watering wands are selling at my local nursery for about twice the price, so I am super happy with this purchase.
